Ancient Egypt Workshop Learning Objective

In our KS2 Ancient Egypt workshop, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of ancient Egyptian civilisation and its lasting impact on history. They will explore the importance of the Nile River, the construction and purpose of the pyramids, and the cultural significance of statues and monuments.

Students will delve into the roles of pharaohs, the meaning behind monumental statues, and the religious beliefs that shaped Egyptian society. Additionally, they will investigate ancient construction techniques and how the Egyptians used skilled labour to build their iconic structures. Through interactive and creative LEGO building activities, students will bring the world of Ancient Egypt to life, constructing pyramids and statues and creating a collaborative Egyptian landscape.

Workshop Learning Outcome

By the end of this KS2 school workshop, students will be able to define and describe key elements of Ancient Egyptian civilisation and understand the historical and cultural significance of the pyramids. They will identify important figures, such as pharaohs, and explain the roles of monumental statues in Egyptian society.

Additionally, students will demonstrate their understanding by constructing detailed LEGO models of a pyramid and a guardian statue, incorporating architectural techniques used in ancient times. Through these models, they will reflect on the enduring legacy of Egypt’s monumental structures and the skills required to build them.

  • Introduction to Ancient Egypt:  A discussion on when and where ancient Egyptians built their monumental structures, the purposes they served, and why these sites held such importance in Egyptian society.

  • Exploring Ancient Egyptian Landscapes and Structures: An interactive visual presentation delving into the iconic landscapes of Ancient Egypt, the purpose of monumental structures like pyramids and temples, and the craftsmanship and techniques used to build them.

  • LEGO Building Challenge Part 1: Children will learn the techniques of building an Egyptian Pyramid out of LEGO then put those skills into practice.

  • LEGO Building Challenge Part 2: Children will place their Egyptian Pyramids into a large scale landscape that we can transform into Ancient Egypt. They will then build statues, monuments or river transportation to add to the LEGO scene.

Our KS2 Animal Habitats LEGO Building Workshop is a 75 minute session packed with immersive, hands-on learning. We start with an engaging visual presentation that introduces various animal habitats and groups, exploring key facts and adaptations.
This sets the stage for an exciting LEGO building challenge where children first construct an animal and then create a corresponding habitat, focusing on essential survival features and ecological interactions.
We conclude the workshop by summarising the key lessons learned, and encouraging teachers to capture photos of the LEGO masterpieces. This workshop not only educates but also inspires creativity and critical thinking through playful construction.
