This workshop is part of our KS2 School Workshops series, focusing on the animal kingdom. In addition to this Workshop, we offer a variety of other engaging workshops, such as Animal Habitats, Ocean Life and Rainforest Life. These workshops are designed to educate and inspire young learners about the natural world and the importance of protecting it.

In our KS2 Animal Kingdom Classification workshop, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of animal classification and its role in the natural world. They will explore various animal groups, such as mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians, and delve into classification categories like diet (carnivore, herbivore, omnivore) and physical traits (vertebrate, invertebrate).

Students will build LEGO models of animals, identifying their classifications and explaining how these traits help them thrive. Additionally, they will design habitats that reflect each animal’s specific needs, investigating how features like diet, physical structure, and behavioural adaptations play a part in survival. Through interactive LEGO building activities, students will gain insight into the diversity of life and each animal’s place within the ecosystem.

By the end of this KS2 school workshop, students will be able to define and describe various animal classifications, such as vertebrates and invertebrates, as well as diet-based classifications like carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. They will identify specific animals, classify them within these groups, and explain how these classifications relate to survival needs and habitats.

Additionally, students will demonstrate their understanding by building a detailed LEGO model of an animal, explaining its classification, and creating a habitat that reflects essential survival features relevant to its dietary and physical adaptations.
