Vikings Workshop Learning Objective

In our KS2 Vikings workshop, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of Viking society and its significant impact on history. They will explore the origins of the Vikings, their voyages across the seas, and the importance of their settlements and trade routes.

Students will delve into the roles of Viking leaders, the design and purpose of Viking longships, and the cultural beliefs that guided their lives. Additionally, they will investigate the construction techniques used to build Viking settlements and ships, learning how craftsmanship played a key role in their success. Through interactive and creative LEGO building activities, students will bring the Viking Age to life, constructing longships and settlements to create a collaborative Viking landscape.

Workshop Learning Outcome

By the end of this KS2 school workshop, students will be able to define and describe key elements of Viking society and understand the historical and cultural significance of the Viking Age. They will identify important aspects of Viking life, such as the role of seafarers and settlers, and explain the purpose of Viking longships and settlements.

Additionally, students will demonstrate their understanding by constructing detailed LEGO models of a Viking longship and a settlement, applying building techniques inspired by Viking craftsmanship.   • Introduction to the Vikings: A discussion on when and where the Vikings lived, the lands they explored and settled, the purpose of their iconic longships and settlements, and why these played such an important role in Viking society and history.

  • Exploring Norse Life: An interactive visual presentation delving into when, where and how Vikings lived. We learn about their culture and the lasting legends they left that live today.

  • LEGO Building Challenge Part 1: Children will have the opportunity to build a LEGO Viking Long Boat. We will talk about the shape and design of the build.

  • LEGO Building Challenge Part 2: Children will build a Viking hut or fort to be part of a LEGO Viking Settlement. All the class builds will be put together to create an impressive Viking landscape.

Our KS2 Vikings LEGO Building Workshop is a 75-minute session filled with immersive, hands-on learning. We begin with an engaging visual presentation that introduces the Viking Age, exploring who the Vikings were, where they came from, and the significance of their longships and settlements.
