Build Along With Brickies: LEGO 17th Century Fire Engine

By |2024-05-20T13:39:06+01:00May 19th, 2024|Brickies at home, Build Along With Brickies|

Welcome to Our Build Along Series! Hello, Brickies! Today, we are continuing our focus on The Great Fire of London as part of our Build Along With Brickies series. Previously, we learned about the Great Fire of London and built a LEGO Tudor House. This time, we’ll look at how people in London in 1666 tried to put out fires and how their methods led to new firefighting tools. During the Great Fire of London, people used leather buckets, fire hooks, and simple water squirters to fight the flames. These tools weren’t very effective, and the fire caused a lot of damage. But this disaster helped inspire new ideas, like the 17th-century fire engine. While the fire engine we’re building today was introduced after the Great Fire, it shows how firefighting improved because of what happened in 1666. This fun activity will help you understand how firefighting tools got better over time. Bring the Great Fire of London to Life at Your School with Our KS1 Workshop! BUSINESS UPDATE - PLEASE READ COVID-19: Our Play Centre will not open until 17th May 2021 at the earliest, this date has been set by the government and is subject to change. We have made the decision not to take any new bookings until the end of April 2021 to ensure that we are only booking parties or sessions that we can guarantee to take place. The restrictions on social distancing for indoor play centres has yet to be published and therefore taking bookings too early could impact the the size of parties and pricing. We apologise for the disappointment this many cause.

LEGO News January Round Up

By |2021-01-29T12:58:09+00:00January 29th, 2021|Brickies at home, News|

January 2021 has been a busy one for LEGO news, what seemed like a continuous conveyor belt of big set releases by LEGO in 2020 shows no signs of letting up in 2021. Which is great news for LEGO fans the world over but not so great for our bank accounts! I am sure the ongoing global pandemic has impacted LEGO in some way but it evident that they have benefited from more people staying at home. It would be interesting to measure the number of new customers or lapsed customers LEGO has been able to bring in as a result of this. Pandemic or not the 'Adults Welcome' theme from a consumer perspective has been a big win. LEGO sets that appeal to adults are not anything new but the introduction of the 'Adults Welcome' theme has been a clear statement of acknowledgement for adult fans of LEGO [AFOLs]. A statement that has been reciprocated in the volume of sales. Although I don't know the exact number I am pretty sure the theme has done extremely well. So what has January brought to the 'Adults Welcome' theme... LEGO Creator Expert Police Station 10278 January 1st is always an eagerly anticipated time of year for the LEGO fan community, in particular those who have invested in the Creator modular theme. We look forward to re-opening our Play Centre on Saturday 5th December. Due to Wokingham currently being positioned in Tier 2 of the government's COVID-19 restrictions we can only allow those who are from the same household to build inside the same pod. At this time we cannot allow children or adults from different households to mix within our centre. If you already have a booking that has now become impacted by the current tier 2 restrictions then please contact us to discuss your options. We look forward to welcoming you back to our Play Centre for some LEGO building fun.

Business Update: 19th October 2020

By |2020-10-20T17:32:49+01:00October 20th, 2020|Brickies at home, News|

We are VERY excited to announce that our Play Centre is back open and we are taking bookings for half term onwards. We have been busy refurbishing and redesigning our centre to ensure that our service is not only COVID-19 secure but an even better building experience than before. We have done this by splitting up the centre into 5 x LEGO private Play Pods and 1 x DUPLO private Play Pod. When visiting Brickies you will have 90 minutes of uninterrupted building time with access to thousands of LEGO bricks just for you and your ‘social bubble’. Your mission will be delivered to you from within your Play Pod, as each one has its own flat screen tv. There is nowhere better than Brickies to bring your imagination to life using LEGO. We have been quietly trialling our Play Pods over the last month to ensure the experience is what we hoped it to be. The feedback has been great and now we look forward to inviting more people in to enjoy it. Our private Play Pods are just one way that we aim to keep everyone safe. You can read more about the steps that we have taken here - https://brickies.club/covid-19/ Please note that we no longer have any communal seating and that adults will need to be counted [...]

Business Update: 3rd August 2020

By |2020-10-20T17:33:09+01:00August 3rd, 2020|Brickies at home, News|

Sadly, we have come to the decision that all services delivered by Brickies will remain closed for August. We are working hard to ensure that we can have a successful reopening at the beginning of September. Like many businesses, Brickies has been closed for 6 long months now and although we have benefitted from certain government schemes, it remains a complex task to successfully re-open a business during the current climate. This issue has been made more complicated by the ever-changing restrictions on the type of businesses that are permitted to re-open. We are hoping based on the current government plan for schools to all be back in September that many of our activities will be able to re-start at this time. Albeit with the necessary COVID-19 safe precautions put in place and restrictions on numbers. We appreciate that there are a high number of customers that had parties booked prior to the lockdown restrictions. Your patience and support during the closure has been incredible and please be assured that when services re-open you will be offered a priority re-booking period. All those with pending parties will be contacted directly by the end of this week to advise you on potential rebooking options. The good news is that when we do reopen the Play Centre our LEGO loving customers will enjoy a [...]
